Teen Council Member Attends National Youth Summit

In July 2004, Teen Council member Allie Lara attended the National Youth Summit sponsored by the US Department of Health and Human Services. Allie is a rising 10th grader at West Forsyth High School and is currently Secretary of Teen Council. The Summit was held in Cleveland, OH, and was attended by over 600 youth and advisors. The Summit was designed to expand the knowledge and strengthen the skills of America's youth, and to increase their capacity to take leadership roles in their neighborhoods, communities, and schools. "It was great to see what all teenagers are doing in their communities," says Allie. "It's great to know that communities are really starting to value us [youth] as leaders." Ashley Lewis, Teen Council Coordinator and Host Homes Therapist, accompanied Allie to the Summit.
