| Host Homes provides temporary shelter and care for young people aged 10-17 when living arrangements outside their family are appropriate. Youth are placed in foster homes for up to two weeks. During that time, the trained foster parents help their young guest begin to rebuild self-esteem and to learn problem-solving skills.
Foster care is provided by volunteer, state-licensed, trained families, supported around the clock by the Host Homes staff. Host Homes currently has about a dozen active foster families.
Foster parents may be either single or married. All receive thirty hours of state-mandated MAPP (Model Approach to Partnership and Parenting) training from the Host Homes staff. In addition, families must meet the other requirements of foster parent licensing established by the North Carolina Department of Youth and Family Services: be under age 65, have a negative TB test, pass a home fire inspection, obtain a medical release from their doctor and pass criminal background checks.
Contact the Host Homes office for more information on our foster care program.
Our next MAPP training is scheduled for October. Please contact Host Homes today for more information.
