In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation. This obligation is rooted in our baptismal commitment to follow Jesus Christ and to bear Christian witness in all we do. ("Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States, " USCCB, November 2007, No. 13).
The website www.faithfulcitizenship.org provides a wide range of resources on the political responsibility of Roman Catholics. Included on the website is the entire text of the U.S. Bishops' statement "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States," approved by the full body of the U.S. Catholic bishops in November, 2007. (The Spanish language website for the Faithful Citizenship resources is www.ciudadanosfieles.org).
You are strongly encouraged to visit this website and spend some time viewing the resources this website offers social concern and pro-life committees, and many other groups and ministries in parishes. Resources include: statements from the U.S. Catholic Bishops and the Vatican, prayer and worship materials, educational programs, family discussion guides, youth ministry materials, and clip art and logos to assist in publicizing the website and U.S. Catholic Bishops' statement.
